Abstract

Inexpensive, earth-abundant &amp; environmentally benign CoCl 2 efficiently catalyses the β-alkylation of alcohol in unprecedented yields (89%) &amp; turnovers (8900). Mechanistic studies are indicative of in situ generated homogeneous molecular Co catalysts.
