Abstract
<p>In S1 Appendix, we provide detailed calculations for the artificial example in <a href="http://www.ploscompbiol.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pcbi.1007640#pcbi.1007640.g003" target="_blank">Fig 3</a>. We give an introduction to steepest descent on manifolds, and we discuss briefly under which conditions a dynamical system can be regarded as a gradient descent on a cost function.</p> <p>(PDF)</p>
