Abstract

Various deformity reconstruction methods have been described for Charcot midfoot correction. We present our surgical technique using specific principles that involve the choice of surgical approaches, osteotomy and fixation construct based on the patterns of midfoot deformities. We identified three major Charcot midfoot deformity patterns: (I) rocker bottom and forefoot abduction; (II) dorsal subluxation/dislocation; and (III) forefoot adduction. In our experience, specific surgical principles need to be applied for each deformity pattern in order to achieve optimal deformity correction, adequate fixation and reliable bone fusion.
