Abstract
Abstract A hyperon–nucleon potential for the strangeness $$S=-1$$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>S</mml:mi> <mml:mo>=</mml:mo> <mml:mo>-</mml:mo> <mml:mn>1</mml:mn> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> sector ( $$\varLambda N$$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>Λ</mml:mi> <mml:mi>N</mml:mi> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> , $$\varSigma N$$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>Σ</mml:mi> <mml:mi>N</mml:mi> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> ) up to third order in the chiral expansion is presented. SU(3) flavor symmetry is imposed for constructing the interaction, however, the explicit SU(3) symmetry breaking by the physical masses of the pseudoscalar mesons and in the leading-order contact terms is taken into account. A novel regularization scheme is employed which has already been successfully used in studies of the nucleon–nucleon interaction within chiral effective field theory up to high orders. An excellent description of the low-energy $$\varLambda p$$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>Λ</mml:mi> <mml:mi>p</mml:mi> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> , $$\varSigma ^- p$$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:msup> <mml:mi>Σ</mml:mi> <mml:mo>-</mml:mo> </mml:msup> <mml:mi>p</mml:mi> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> and $$\varSigma ^+ p$$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:msup> <mml:mi>Σ</mml:mi> <mml:mo>+</mml:mo> </mml:msup> <mml:mi>p</mml:mi> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> scattering data is achieved. New data from J-PARC on angular distributions for the $$\varSigma N$$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>Σ</mml:mi> <mml:mi>N</mml:mi> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> channels are analyzed. Results for the hypertriton and $$A=4$$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>A</mml:mi> <mml:mo>=</mml:mo> <mml:mn>4</mml:mn> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> hyper-nuclear separation energies are presented. An uncertainty estimate for the chiral expansion is performed for selected hyperon–nucleon observables.
