Abstract

High entropy alloys (HEAs) have attracted much attention in the past two decades due to their unique composition and excellent properties. HEA coatings have significant advantages in improving the surface properties of materials, which can achieve excellent properties such as high temperature stability and corrosion resistance in low cost and show great application value in such extreme environments. Although some progress has been made in the research of HEA coatings, the system division is still not clear enough, and the complex internal relationship between the elemental composition, microstructure and properties of the coatings has not been fully revealed. This results in a lack of systematic theoretical guidance for the optimal design of coatings, which constrains the further improvement of their performance. Based on this, this review aims to comprehensively review the existing research, deeply analyze the system, elemental composition, microstructure and properties of HEA coatings, and explore the key issues and potential rules. And combined with the performance characteristics of the coating, its application prospects in different fields are described, and forward-looking suggestions for the future development of HEA coatings are put forward
