Abstract

Road traffic, which involves almost the entire population of the state and millions of cars, plays a significant part in the life of modern society. One of the main problems in traffic management is the high congestion of the road network, especially in cities with already developed architecture. Traffic management in such cities is carried out with the use of traffic management equipment. The main problem of traffic congestion is a higher pace of automobilization compared with the pace of the road network development, which in turn leads to accident-prone situations and road accidents. As a result of the study, the authors found a significant influence of vehicle parameters on calculations under traffic lights coordination plans. Based on the obtained results and certain fundamental parameters that have a particular impact, the authors propose a method for calculating the cycle of traffic signal control, which makes it possible to obtain a more effective duration of signal control when introducing the third traffic control phase. Due to the calculations made by the authors, it is possible to obtain the nominal values required for the calculation, which help to account for the main parameters of vehicles and geometry of a lane.
