Abstract

In this research, we unveil the current usability challenges in the rapidly evolving metaverse concept and propose Intelligent User Interfaces (IUIs) based approaches to overcome these issues. The metaverse, a persistent and immersive 3D virtual environment, currently faces navigation challenges such as information overload, navigational complexity, and control mechanism constraints, with low customization options. These challenges affect user interaction and overall satisfaction. IUIs, driven by artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and adaptive user interfaces (AUIs), provide personalized yet natural experiences. Interactive designs aim to optimize the user experience by minimizing interface friction and psychological drag through intelligent, anticipated, or even individually specific predictive adjustments. We emphasize a modular and scalable architecture for IUIs, allowing for adaptive control schemes based on real-time feedback and personalized content management. IUIs can make the metaverse more accessible, performant, and secure without adding complexity or discomfort, thanks to AI-powered systems. Furthermore, this paper outlines use cases and system designs, highlighting the necessity of IUIs to realize the metaverse's full potential.
