Abstract

Topological phase transitions and Majorana-like, spectral-gap-protected edge states are observed in quasi-one-dimensional mechanical metamaterials, analogous to the Kitaev chain. An analog to parity switching, which forms the basis of Majorana zero mode qubits, is demonstrated.
