Vehicle Number Plate Recognition in Intelligent Transportation System using YOLO v8 and EasyOCR

Abstract
Intelligent Transporttion System (ITS) provides economic benefits to business practices in the public or private sector. The benefit of implementing ITS is vehicle plate recognition. Number plates can be used for various things, for example, detecting when a user violates rules. Vehicle number plate detection is a process of image processing captured by a traffic camera. It is rather difficult to obtain high accuracy in the case of Vehicle Plate Recognition. To develop a motor vehicle plate recognition system, it is necessary to implement YOLO v8, which is useful in detecting motor vehicle plate objects, and easyOCR for reading characters from vehicle plates. YOLO v8 has better accuracy than previous versions in detecting motor vehicle plate objects with EasyOCR to read motor vehicle serial numbers. The accuracy obtained from this system reaches 95%.
