Abstract

A compact chip-inductor-loaded monopole antenna for 2.4/5/6 GHz WLAN operation with new 6 GHz (5925–7125 MHz) band is presented. The antenna occupies a small size of 4 mm x 16 mm only, easily fitted in the bezel above the notebook display. The design consists of a symmetrical, two-branched monopole with two shorting inductors for generating the 5 and new 6 GHz WLAN bands. With further loading the chip inductor at the end of the monopole branch and connecting it to a tuning portion, the lower-band resonant mode in the 2.4 GHz band can be obtained. Good radiation characteristics are achieved too. The proposed design is promising for Wi-Fi 6E notebook antennas with new 6 GHz band.
