Abstract

Abstract Prevotella copri , which is divided into four clades, exerts bidirectional effects on host health. These effects include positive improvements in the allergy response and insulin sensitivity. However, P. copri sometimes has adverse effects on host health, and it has been found to be positively correlated with inflammation, insulin resistance, and diarrhea. The interaction between P. copri and these diseases is influenced by the host's diet. The capacity of P. copri to metabolize dietary glycans, as well as the effects of its degradation products, such as short‐chain fatty acids and succinic acid, appear to underlie its dual impact on the host. This duality suggests that manipulating the host's diet to increase the abundance of P. copri may be an effective strategy to improve disease outcomes. Here, we illustrate the characteristics and genetic traits of P. copri related to dietary metabolism are and summarize the health effects of P. copri on the host and methods to regulate its abundance, thus providing suggestions for the development and practical application of P. copri .
