Abstract

Accurate models of batteries are crucial for understanding their performance, safety, and longevity in applications ranging from mobile devices to electric vehicles. Equivalent Circuit Models (ECMs) are indispensable in the design and optimisation of battery systems, as they provide a balance between computational speed and the ability to represent the dynamic response. The model accuracy in predicting real behaviour is critically limited by the parametrisation process. While many articles describe the experiments required for parametrisation, fewer describe the process of parameter estimation from the data. This work introduces BatPar - a comprehensive open-source MATLAB-based toolkit designed to enhance the efficiency and reliability of parametrisation for equivalent circuit models for battery cells. BatPar offers unparalleled adaptability to a wide range of experimental protocols and is compatible with both full-cell and half-cell models. BatPar stands out for its advanced capability to handle parameter dependencies on temperature and current, its user-friendly graphical interface, and its advanced features, such as batch processing, quality diagnosis of parameters, and advanced post-processing. With its extensive user and developer manuals, BatPar aims to streamline the process of battery parametrisation, contributing to advancements in energy storage system management and optimisation strategies.
