Abstract

We highlight the vast synthetic scope for macrocyclic engineering of magnetic anisotropy, generating a high performance pentagonal bipyramidal Dy( <sc>iii</sc> ) single-ion magnet where the weak equatorial ligand field is created entirely by using a macrocycle.
