Abstract
An innovative approach based on an inverse source (IS) formulation is introduced for the design of constrained static-passive electromagnetic skins (SP-EMSs). By leveraging on the ill-posedness/nonuniqueness of the IS problem at hand, a closed-form expression for the synthesis of SP-EMSs simultaneously complying with complex wireless coverage requirements and urban installation constraints is deduced. Representative results from a wide set of numerical experiments are reported to prove the effectiveness and the computational efficiency of the proposed method as a suitable tool toward a real and effective implementation of the so-called smart electromagnetic environment (SEME).
