The design and implementation of a vending machine based on state machine, FPGA and microcontroller

Abstract
The report is divided into two parts. The first part is to discuss the state machine, which describes the background, types, advantages and disadvantages, how to realize and the importance to the system. And then the advantages and disadvantages of FPGA and microcontroller are also compared. The second part is to simulate a simple vending machine with state machine. This vending machine is realized by C language + ARM microcontroller and Verilog HDL + FPGA development board. Finally, the development of state machine using microcontroller and FPGA is compared.
