Abstract

The OS library of tissue engineering scaffolds applies design for additive manufacturing strategies, includes systematic variations and is documented with characterization maps, which facilitates applicability and materials and printing technology selection tasks. It constitutes the first open-source library of tissue engineering scaffolds implemented with FAIR data principles in mind and shared as a collection of open-source geometries through remarkable open-science networks and co-creation environments. The designed scaffolds include periodic and functionally-graded lattices, as well as more advanced multiscale, fractal and multimaterial constructs for emulating the intricate cellular microenvironments present in human tissues. The OS library is already proving highly effective and practical for systematically and comparably evaluating the performance and limits of materials and technologies currently under development.
