Altermagnetic superconducting diode effect
Sayan Banerjee, Mathias S. Scheurer
Abstract
Recently, altermagnets and superconducting diodes have been garnering a lot of interest, most notably due to their potential for spintronics applications and fundamental physics questions. Here, the authors combine these active fields and demonstrate that altermagnetism can induce superconducting diode behavior in a conventional superconductor, demonstrating that no net magnetic moment is required for this effect. Possible candidates for experimental realization and key characteristics of the effect are also discussed.
