Abstract

Integrated approaches are needed to guarantee long-term sustainable food affordability, dietary diversity, nutrition, and health in order to feed the world’s 9 billion inhabitants. Dietary habits drastically changed due to the increased production and consumption of processed foods (Abberton et al., 2015). The intake of either too little or too much energy-dense food has been related to major health issues in nearly every country in the world, including micronutrient deficiencies, overweight or obesity, calorie deficiencies, and type 2 diabetes (McPherson, 2014; Tilman & Clark, 2014). Greater dietary quality and diversity that are in line with individual needs, cultural context, locally accessible food, and dietary habits are necessary for balanced nutrition (Sibhatu et al., 2015; WHO, 2015).
