Study Of Types of Road Abnormalities and Techniques Used for Their Detection

Abstract
Road conditions unknowingly have a significant role in our life. Improper road conditions may damage vehicle parts and cause road accidents if not addressed timely. Internet of Things (IoT) connects sensors and devices to the internet. The driver can be alerted of any unknown speed breakers, humps and potholes using IoT. Integration of road abnormalities with google maps can help prevent many casualties. This paper presents an overview of recent techniques used to sense road conditions and provide a sustainable ecosystem to detect and notify any road anomaly on time. The machine learning algorithms used to identify the road conditions are classified based on their applicability. These techniques build a real-time road condition monitoring system for both road maintenance authorities and regular drivers.
