Abstract
To restrain the volume expansion of steel slag, clarify the volume stability of steel slag water-stabilised materials and realise the application life prediction, this study used oxalic acid to pretreat steel slag and prepared steel slag water-stabilised materials with different types, dosage and particle size to replace limestone and cement. The volume stability evaluation of steel slag water-stabilised base was realised through the unconfined compressive strength and autoclaved stability of steel slag water-stable materials. A life prediction method of steel slag water-stabilised materials was proposed based on the autoclaved constitutive model. The results showed that this method could inhibit the volume expansion of steel slag. The compressive strength of steel slag mixed with water-stabilised materials could be improved by more than 50% compared with that of water-stabilised materials, and the compressive strength of steel slag water-stabilised materials treated with oxalic acid could be improved compared with that of untreated materials. The service life of acidified steel slag coarse aggregate and steel slag powder (<0.6 mm) instead of limestone in water-stabilised base was calculated by the life prediction method, which was more than 10 years, more than 518.8% longer than that of untreated steel slag.
