Abstract

Intensifying air pollution, especially airborne particulate pollution, has attracted growing public concerns due to its widespread and harmful effects on humans. Air filtration technology has received increasing attention as an effective solution, and the development of high-efficiency, low-resistance air filtration materials have become a common pursuit. Electrospun electret fibers are recognized as a promising candidate for high-performance filter media, especially benefiting from their in-situ charge injection during fiber forming, which can provide attractive electret effect to capture particles. Here, we overview electrospun electret fibers for air filtration, introduce the development of electret fibers and their mechanisms of air filtration, then focus on the summary of the electret principles and the current development of electrospun electret fibers, finally conclude the existing challenges and perspectives, aiming to provide a background for further development of electrospun electret fibers for air filtration.
